Oggi, 14 Novembre 2010, Giornata Mondiale dell'Aids 2010, Eddie affiancherà 11 straordinari attori, diversi sceneggiatori multi-premiati e registi superstar nell'evento teatrale che celebrerà il lavoro dell'associazione Dramatic Need che si occupa di creative arts charity, per raccogliere fondi per una comunità artistica nella Sud Africa rurale.
Alcuni scrittori inclusa anche la vincitrice del premio Pulitzer Lynn Nottage (Ruined), il vincitore del premio Olivier Bola Agbaje (Gone Too Far), Polly Stenham (That Face) e Kwame Kwei-Armah (Walter's War), hanno adattato 12 monologhi da testimoni viventi scritti dai bambini del Dramatic Need in Sud Africa. Questi monologhi saranno recitati da attori famosi al prestigioso Old Vic Theatre a Londra e simultaneamente nella Sud Africa rurale dai bambini stessi. Questa performance verrà messa in scena solo questa sera, un'opportunità unica per vedere le forze di questo team creativo.

Gli altri attori che prenderanno parte all'evento sono: Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans, Tamara Drewe), Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes, War Horse, Atonement) Eddie Redmayne (Red [Olivier Award – Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Tony Award – Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play], The Good Shepherd), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Nonso Anozie (Othello, Death and the King’s Horseman, The Golden Compass), Jenny Jules (Ruined, Fabulation, Kavanagh QC), Kerry Fox (Shallow Grave, Angel at my Table), Hattie Morahan (The Golden Compass, Sense and Sensibility), Lucian Msamati (The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Pericles), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Small Island, Survivors), Romola Garai (King Lear, Atonement, Emma).

Un bel progetto soprattutto a livello umanitario. Sono felice che Eddie ne faccia parte. peccato non potervi assistere.

Sì, lo sapevo peccato non potervi assistere, credo che sarà un bello spettacolo oltre che una cosa davvero bella fatta da parte di tutti i loro.

Per quelli di voi che sono riusciti a prendere una copia del Times di domenica dell'ultimo week end hanno potuto vedere questa immagine diffusa a tutta pagina nel centro del Times Magazine di Domenica . Le foto sono state scattate nel backstage all'Old Vic di Londra dove 17 attori si sono esibiti in The Children Monologues mentre aspettavano di poter provare i loro singoli pezzi sul palco con il regista Danny Boyle.
Ogni monologo è stato adattato da autori professionisti provenienti da oltre 300 sudafricani e dalle testimonianze di bambini ruandesi, raccolte da Need Drammatica. Gli attori avevano visto il loro monologo individuale, ma non avevano letto le storie originali dei bambini. Alcune di queste testimonianze, scritte con calligrafia infantile su pezzi di carta, sono assolutamente strazianti e rendono la lettura molto difficile. Essi contengono cose terribili, oneri che non dovrebbero mai essere effettuati da dei bambini. Questi attori sono stati fotografati prima (come se stessi, non nel personaggio) e poi direttamente, dopo aver letto la testimonianza del bambino, che ha ispirato il loro monologo, in modo che una reazione istantanea è stata catturata. Questi attori non recitano, mostrano solo un sentimento che qualsiasi essere umano prova dopo aver letto ciò che questi bambini hanno pensato. Eddie Redmayne è stato uno dei pochi attori il cui monologo era inesorabilmente ottimista. Lui è uno dei pochi che in queste foto prima e dopo resta allegro come era quando è arrivato!

For those of you who managed to grab a copy of The Sunday Times last weekend you would have seen this image across a full-page spread in the Middle of the Sunday Times Magazine. The pictures were taken backstage at the Old Vic in London as the 17 actors performing in the Children‚Äôs Monologues waited to rehearse their individual pieces on stage with director Danny Boyle.

Each Monologue was adapted by professional playwrights from over 300 South African and Rwandan children‚Äôs testimonies collected by Dramatic Need. The actors had seen their individual monologue but had not read any of the original children‚Äôs stories. Some of these testimonies, written in childish writing on scraps of paper, are absolutely harrowing and make for very difficult reading. They contain terrible things, burdens that should never be carried by children. These actors where photographed before (as themselves, not in character) and then directly after reading the child‚Äôs testimony that inspired their monologue, so that an instant reaction was captured. These actors are not acting, they are just feeling what any human being would upon reading what these children have been through. Eddie Redmayne was one of the few actors whose monologue was relentlessly upbeat. He is one of the few in these before-and -after pictures who comes away looking as cheerful as he was when he went in.
